Monkeypox: Brazil confirms the 6th case of the disease

O Ministry of Health reported this Thursday (16) that another case of monkeypox (Monkeypox) was reported in Brazil. According to the record, the case was confirmed in Sao Pauloafter examination by the Adolfo Lutz Institute.

According to information from Brazil Agency, the 28-year-old patient lives in Indaiatuba (SP) and has a history of travel to Europe. He remains isolated and his clinical condition is stable. The case is being tracked by city and state health departments.

With this addition, the country now has six confirmed cases of monkeypox; four in São Pauloone in Rio Grande do Sul and one in Rio de Janeiro. Thirteen suspected cases are under investigation.

According to the state Department of Health, the disease can be transmitted by contact through a hug, kiss, massage, sexual intercourse or respiratory secretions. Transmission also occurs through contact with objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding or towels) and surfaces that have been used by the patient.

There is currently no specific treatment for the disease, however, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), outbreaks will be controlled by vaccination against smallpox.

In a recent interview with metropolisesHealth Surveillance Secretary Arnaldo Medeiros said the Ministry of Health already negotiating the purchase of monkeypox vaccines for Brazil. According to the official, a meeting with the manufacturer has already taken place and the Pan American Health Organization (Oops) will serve as an intermediary for the acquisition.
