ACAP: sales of electric passenger cars exploded in the first five months of the year
According to data from the Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP), sales of electric passenger cars soared in the first five months of the year. According to reports, an average of 40 vehicles were sold per day, 18 more than the same period last year.
Peugeot leads the ranking of the best-selling electric car brands between January and May, followed by Tesla and BMW. In total, of the 28 brands with official representatives of electric vehicles in Portugal, only Man recorded no sales. Disclosed sales related to passenger cars include ambulances, ACAP says.
ACAP also mentions that through May a total of 22,030 passenger cars of all types were sold, including electric, plug-in and hybrid, 26.4% more than the same period in 2021.
As for the market for light commercial vehicles, it experienced strong growth in May. However, it fell 275.6% from the same period a year earlier. In May, the growth of this segment reached 63% compared to May last year.
Overall, the auto market fell 6.7% through May, compared to the same period in 2021, and 40.6% compared to 2019.
