Miguel Oliveira regrets the loss of grip at the rear: “I could finish closer to the group in front of me” – MotoGP

Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (KTM) felt that this Sunday had been “important” to be able to finish in the top 10 of the MotoGP Italian Grand Prix, eighth round of the Motorcycle World Championship.

In statements released by the KTM press office, the Almada rider described the race as “pleasant”, in which he managed to “be competitive” by finishing in ninth position.

Miguel Oliveira takes over from KTM:

It was the third time this season that the Portuguese driver finished a race in the top 10, after his victory in Indonesia and his fifth place in the Portuguese GP. “The rear grip dropped more than expected and that affected my race pace. I think I could have finished closer to the group in front of me,” defended Miguel Oliveira.

However, the KTM rider considers that this result “is important” for him and for the team after “not having scored points at Le Mans”, during the previous round, due to a fall in the last laps.

From then on, he guarantees that he will move on to the next round, in Barcelona, next weekend, “motivated and eager to do better”, in particular because Miguel Oliveira won on the Catalan circuit in 2021.

The Portuguese rider, who started from 15th place, finished the Italian GP 11.256 seconds behind the winner, Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), while Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) finished second, 0.635 seconds behind, and Spaniard Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) finished third, at 1,983.

Quartararo leads the World Cup with 122 points, while Miguel Oliveira has 50 and retains 11th place.
