Brazil has recorded 382 deaths from dengue fever between January and Maycounting until last Saturday (21), according to the bulletin of the Ministry of Health. The number shows that deaths this year exceed all those reported from the disease last year.while there were 246 dengue deaths.

However, the Ministry of Health informs that the data may be higher than what has been disclosed so far: 349 other deaths are still under investigation. If we compare the same period of 2022 with that of 2021, the number of deaths is double that reported last year – an increase of 138.7%. However, there is a 35% reduction compared to 2019.

The country is suffering from a dengue epidemic in 2022. Until last week, 9,318 serious cases of the disease had been confirmed since the beginning of this year. The statistic also exceeded the total number of cases recorded in 2021. Experts point out that the high number of people with the disease could be linked to the increase in poverty in Brazilsuch as the problem of lack of basic sanitation faced by many Brazilians.
