THE BALL – Suárez’s moving farewell to the Metropolitano (Atlético Madrid)

The biggest emotions of Atlético Madrid-Sevilla this Sunday were saved for the end, when Wanda Metropolitano said goodbye to Luis Suárez, the Uruguayan striker decisive to win the title last season but who played little this year, and also to former FC Porto Hector Herrera – both are leaving Atlético at the end of their contracts.

The player was substituted in the 65th minute and couldn’t hold back his tears on the bench. At the end, he was in the field with his wife and three children.

President Enrique Cerezo left him nothing but praise. “Suárez is a magnificent player, a wonderful person. He deserves everything at this club and will have a very prominent place in the museum, anywhere in this stadium. We have and will keep wonderful memories of him. He was a magnificent player, he helped us win the league title after a few years,” he told Movistar.
