High blood sugar causes a condition called Charcot’s foot, which results in bony bumps and numbness in the area. This health condition decreases people’s ability to feel pain in the area, which means cuts and ulcers may go unnoticed by patients.

Diabetic feet are more vulnerable to infections because the condition reduces blood flow to the extremities, causing cuts and other wounds to take longer to heal.
