Women’s football: at ten, Benfica “takes revenge” and beats Sp. Braga

Benfica’s women’s team ‘avenged’ the midweek defeat to Sp. Braga in the League Cup final on Sunday, now taking the best of the ‘city of archbishops’ by 2-0.

The Eagles, leaders of the qualifying phase of the champion, built the victory after being shorthanded since the 27th minute, when Kika Nazareth was sent off after an entrance from Vanessa Marques.

Despite this, Filipa Patão’s men opened the scoring in the 43rd minute through Cloé Lacasse and scored again before the break through Ana Vitória.

Benfica now have 24 points, the result of 8 wins in as many games and have 16 goals scored and none conceded. Sporting, who beat Albergaria away 4-0, are second with three points less, but one game more played.

Already Sp. Braga is only sixth in the standings with 10 points.
