A refusal caused “tension” with the French Football Federation
Kylian Mbappé refused on Tuesday to participate in advertising actions organized by the French Football Federation (FFF), causing a “tense” atmosphere with her, according to the French newspaper L’Equipe.
The French international therefore did not wish to participate in activities agreed with sponsors and brands associated with the French Federation because, according to RMC Sport radio, Mbappé does not accept that his own image appears in advertisements for brands. with which it is not contractually bound. .
The newspaper L’Équipe also explains that Mbappé only grants image rights to solidarity brands and that the striker will not feel comfortable with some of the brands associated with the French Federation, which is why he refused to take part in the publicity of this first France’s training day despite a failed attempt by FFF president Noel Le Graet to change the 23-year-old winger’s decision.
Mbappé will also intend to implement an amendment to the agreement that the French team has with the Federation regarding image rights, in order to reverse the decision taken by Le Graet after the 2010 World Cup. , in which it was determined that players would leave to receive bonuses outside of international competitions and that income from their image rights would be shared equally at the end of each match.
The consequences of Mbappé’s refusal are not yet known, L’Équipe stressing that this is an unprecedented situation for the French Federation, confirming that all the actors of the Gallic concentration have committed, in writing, to give in their image rights for publicity purposes.
