Sporting returned to the top of the Betclic League, beating Lusitânia (91-64), in a match that was delayed from the 18th round and which took place this Saturday evening, at the João Rocha pavilion, in Lisbon.
As the result itself indicates, the Lions had no difficulty beating the Azoreans and at halftime they were already 25 points ahead (47-22). Lusitânia still managed to win the third period (23-22), but even that did not jeopardize the leonine triumph, since the distance was already great and in the last quarter the partial was again favorable to the men of Luís Magalhães (22-19).
Amenhotep Abif (Lusitânia) was the match’s top scorer, with 18 points, after coming very close to a double-double, as he grabbed 9 rebounds. On the Leonine side, Shakir Smith (16 points) was the top scorer, well supported by Mike Fofana and Daniel Relvão (both at 13), and António Monteiro (11 points and 9 rebounds) was also on the verge of a double-double. .
With this triumph, Sporting regains the lead in the standings – from where it had momentarily left it, after Benfica’s victory over Immortal (95-64) on Saturday afternoon -, now counting 38 points, one more than Benfica and FC Porto (the dragons, however, have one more game). The Azoreans remain in 6th place, with 30 points.
In the next round, there is a derby, Sporting receiving Benfica (Wednesday, at 8:30 p.m.). Lusitânia also plays on Wednesday, against CAB Madeira, but at 9:30 p.m.
