The Birigui Health Department’s task force, which has been criss-crossing the city’s neighborhoods since last week, has already collected 7.8 tons of unusable materials that could serve as breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue, chikungunya and the zika virus.

Bottles, tires, wrappers, old buckets and other materials that could serve as a deposit for standing water were salvaged from backyards and vacant lots. 2,711 properties have already been visited. 1,094 others were found to be uninhabited, closed or residents refused.

This Wednesday (16), community and endemic health workers carried out an active search and orientation of the population of the neighborhoods of Canaã and Monte Líbano 2. Starting tomorrow (17), the work will take place in Monte Líbano 1, neighborhoods of Copacabana, João Crevelaro.

Included in the calendar were neighborhoods that have seen an increase in dengue fever cases this year. So far the sweep has been completed in the neighborhoods of Cidade Jardim, Ivone Alves Palma, Jandaia 3, Thereza Maria Barbieri, São Brás, Residencial Aurora and Cohab 3.

PREVENTION

The visits are carried out by more than 30 agents and five supervisors from the Direction de la Santé de Birigui. Professionals are properly uniformed and identified with badges and bags, following all health protocols against covid-19.

During the inspection, it is important that citizens wear a face mask to receive the officers and collaborate in the action, allowing professionals to enter for the inspections.

The Secretary of Health, Cássia Rita Santana Celestino, reaffirmed that the task force aims to control and even reduce suspected and positive cases of dengue fever in the regions visited. “We are intensifying door-to-door actions carried out on a daily basis and we need the partnership of the population,” the secretary asked.

CASE

Data from the Ministry of Health reports that Birigui registers 385 positive cases of dengue fever this year, with no deaths. 257 other cases are under investigation. In 2021, the municipality had 631 cases of dengue fever and one death caused by the disease.
