The event brought together representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS. The presentation of the results aims to ensure the continuity of PAHO support to the State for the expansion and qualification of the combined offer of prevention, care, diagnosis and treatment of HIV infections, viral hepatitis and syphilis.

From July to December 2021, several training sessions were organized for healthcare professionals, covering topics such as: PEP, PrEP and self-testing, shared management of HIV and hepatitis infections with primary health care and specialist services, diagnosis and treatment.

According to the head of the nucleus of STIs HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis and syphilis, Suilany Souza, the actions were extremely relevant for the State and the municipalities, considering that in 2020, due to the pandemic, many extramural programs , educational and rapid tests have been harmed.

“Considering that HIV, as well as viral hepatitis, are endemic infections in our State, with a high degree of transmissibility and most of the time silent, we are working on the reorganization of the Assistance Network, focusing on expanding the offer of preventive actions, qualifying assistance for comprehensive and qualified care, based on shared care (primary and specialized care) and the decentralization of care,” explained Suilany Souza.
